Everyone handles grief differently but none so differently as Tim Forester, multimillionaire Juice King, who lost his son a year ago. It starts with him quietly pocketing a china flamingo belonging to his three year old niece, Joy, and by his tenth flamingo has escalated to felony grand theft. He is shot by one person and shot at by another. He is losing his business and his wife but he is feeling better. Flamingo thieving makes his heart beat. He comes alive. In a way he is having a wonderful time. But how will it end? Quite possibly in prison. Flamingo Thief is a funny, bittersweet story of love, loss, family, fruit and flamingoes. The reader will never forget Tim Forester, his disastrous way of dealing with grief, and a heart that is bursting with love.

"Flamingo Thief" is a wonderful book about love and loss and how people cope with both. Tim Forester and his wife, Stella, have lost their beloved son, Jamie, and the loss has caused them to drift apart. Tim is sliding deeper and deeper into depression; he desperately seeks ways to keep Jamie alive and present in his life. Stella seems to want to forget all that once way, to closing herself off from Tim and Jamie and memories of the family they comprised. Author Susan Trott keenly explores the different ways that grief changes people and the choices they make. Trott's book is bright and funny and poignant and sorrowful. Not just for the grieving, this novel is about the soul's need to reconnect, reaffirm and renew in the face of terrible tragedy.Product details

Flamingo Thief Susan Trott 9780557652280 Books Reviews
Flamingo Thief is a remarkable book. Wonderful, well-drawn, quirky (as only Trott knows how) characters, evocative Bay Area settings--from the houseboats of Sausalito to the wine country of Napa--and, wow, what a compelling story...the subject (the loss of a child), heart-wrenchingly real and imaginatively drawn, told with humor and compassion. From-the-heart, fine fine writing.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Flamingo Thief. It is a spiritual journey without heavy religious overtones and a well-written fictional novel!
It has been 20 years since I stumbled upon Susan Trott's books while in grad school. I've missed the adventures and the places she would take my imagination. The Flamingo Thief reminded of what I've missed and did not disappoint.... The ability to be transported through sad and tragic lives that are still able to find the humor and joy and love they have to offer is still a worthwhile trip to take.
