I have mixed feelings about this book. Perhaps I had my expectations too high. This is a technique repository and little more, but it is valuable. I have the kindle edition.

Pro's:
-Great color photos, good size and helpful angles. Wish other exercise books were this topnotch in this department.
-easy to use layout. Again wish others were like this.
-step by step layout of each technique
-lots of exercises, a few which I have never seen, a few I will probably never try
- basic technique tips on each exercise, does have some nice cues and tips sprinkled throughout
-warmup and mobility drills are good and often lacking from other books

Con's:
-Personally I found the book a bit sparse on technique. I was hoping to gain some insight into IKFF style kb lifting, but didn't really see anything to differentiate it from RKC or SFG styles as a fitness enthusiast. I'm not an instructor or affiliated with any group yet.
-many of the 190+ techniques are just the 1 vs 2 arm version of the same drill with the same pictures and cues, just now he is holding 2 bells. Hardly any tips on differences between the two. Seems like a lot of extra space without realling adding anything useful that couldn't have been handled with "Hey you can also do the same thing with two bells." But if you really want to see it you can so your preference.
- Pay close attention to the pictures. Sometimes things like handle position or bell position at the start are not mentioned. So study the pictures carefully. The core lift section does include more detail than some of the other sections.
- no programming
-no explanation of breathing, which is key to many lifts.

Conclusion. The quality is very high layout and photography wise. Bit sparse on technique details and no programming. So I wouldn't call it a complete guide, but if you already have a handle on programming, breathing then this is a good resource for exercises to experiment with. I have not had the chance to get any of his dvds yet, but expect more of the technique details to be found there so maybe he didn't bother to include as much in this book. That being said this is not the book I would recommend for a beginner starting with kettlebells wait a bit then get it if you feel the need.

Steve Cotter The Complete Guide to Kettlebell Lifting edition by Paul F Viele Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

It gets right to it. Would of gave it a 5 if it explained what the exercises worked and why.
I gave this book a 5 star, because it is easy to understand, and most important, it shows proper technique for kettlebell lifting. A great book for anyone interested in proper kettlebell lifting.
A must read for everyone that works out with Kettlebells.
There is much to recommend this book, especially if you are new to kettle bells and want to get a grasp on the significant range of exercises available to the kettle bell user. I liked the clear instructions and well formatted photos that showed the key elements in most of the exercises.

But I come to this book with more than 40 years in the sports of olympic weightlifting and powerlifting. I am not sure things would be so clear to a novice. And that is why I have not given the book 5 stars. The author has a small way to go to get that last star.

The first thing I would like to see in the 2nd edition is a bit more clarity in some of he instructions that accompany each exercise. Many have key points to look for, but not all. I would also like to see 'tips, tricks and traps' for the unwary. Things like where to put the most exertion in the exercise, how quickly to perform a lift, warnings about balance and joint stability. Kettle bells are free weights and therefore carry certain inherent risks. Some of he exercises carry additional specific risks such as potential joint damage, if not done properly. Furthermore, asymmetrical exercises can also present potential for injury if not planned and performed carefully. All of this is deserving of coverage in a book claiming to be a "complete guide".

I realise that safety would seem to be an obvious requirement to anyone using any free weights, but it is worth spending some time on, especially where specific exercises present known potential hazards, e.g. snatches, windmills, where the weight needs to be moved to and balanced overhead. Grip, sweat and the use of weightlifters chalk or straps also deserve a mention for those new to the sport.

It would also be good if some coverage was given to weight selection, repetitions, set numbers and program design. I realise that there are so many variables, but discussion of some of the basic concepts of workout design would have helped the author to claim the fifth star as a "complete guide".

Imperfect as it is, this is one of the best books I have read on the topic. The pictures are very good, and the formatting seems to accommodate the inherent problems with . I look forward to the next edition being truly "complete".
This book is a comprehensive introduction to kettlebell lifting. It is well illustrated, though, I think I would like more about the biological consequence of these movements. What muscles, or muscle groups do the exercises hit. But if you have a little experience lifting weights generally, this book is a great way to introduce kettlebells into one's workouts.
The step by step photos are great in understanding how each kettlebell exercise is done. I get a better idea of them better then anything else I have read.
I am really enjoying this book. I had shoulder surgery one year ago, and have been chomping at the bit to get back to my Kettlebells.
Of course, I wanted to make sure that I was doing the exercises correctly, and this book is great!
It also includes a DVD with the proper forms executed. While having a personal trainer is optimum, this book comes as close as possible to having the trainer with you. Highly recommend.
